West Road and Westgate Road

We have been working to develop improvements to the bus route between Denhill Park on the West Road, and Elswick Road on Westgate Road, and invite you to have your say on these proposals. 

You can view the drawings of these plans (PDF) and changes to the current layout include: 

• Upgrade three uncontrolled crossings to light-controlled crossings at Weidner Road, outside Westgate Road Primary School, and Beaconsfield Street. 
• Install a new bus lane towards the city centre between Denhill Park and Condercum Road. 
• Restrict stopping and parking outside designated bays with a red route from Hoyle Avenue to Elswick Road. A red route is marked with red lines at the kerb and indicates that stopping or parking is not allowed. 
• Widen two bus boarding platforms to improve accessibility. 
• Formal parking arrangements outside the shop on the corner of Beaconsfield Street. 
• New cycle facilities on Beaconsfield Street and Gloucester Road 

You have until Sunday 23 February 2025 to have your say on these plans by sending your comments to transport@newcastle.gov.uk, or stakeholders can arrange an appointment to share their feedback. 

We will use your comments to inform any changes to our proposed plans and we will publish more information online with final plans going to Cabinet later in 2025.
