Hackney Carriage Vehicle Licence Renewal

Hackney Carriage renewal application forms will be emailed to proprietors 4 to 6 weeks prior to licence expiry. The vehicle must be booked in and presented for test prior to the expiry of the vehicle licence. It is advised that an application to renew a vehicle licence should be made at least 21 days prior to the expiry of the current licence

Vehicle and proprietor details will be pre-populated on the form. The form will require applicant review and amendment and should be presented at time of test with proof of vehicle ownership (V5 registration document), tax and appropriate insurance certificate. 

Before a licence is issued the vehicle must pass the vehicle inspection.

If the vehicle is less than three years old the vehicle will be subject to an annual vehicle compliance test. If the vehicle is greater than three years old the vehicle will be subject to an additional six monthly interim test.

Licence and test fees must be paid at the time the application is submitted.

Processing and timescales:
Subject to satisfactory vehicle examination and presentation of application and appropriate documents, the Authority will endeavour to process your licence. Vehicle and plate markings will be securely attached to the vehicle at the time of examination.
