Blocked Gullies

We maintain the highway network keeping the roads and pavements free of flooding that might cause a hazard or obstruction.  This includes clearing blocked gullies. A gully is covered by a slotted cover normally seen in the gutters at roadsides. They are cleared on a regular program by our gully teams.

Major flooding

During a flood event roads may be reported closed.  The City Council's Twitter and Facebook accounts will be in operation to keep you up to date with the current situations in the city.

In such an event please call 0191 278 7878 and ask for "Your Local Services." Remember during a flooding and extreme weather event the phone queues can be very busy.
