The route for this year’s HSBC UK Let’s Ride Newcastle event has been revealed, including the popular lap around the pitch at St James’ Park.
Thousands of cyclists of all ages and abilities are expected to take advantage of Newcastle City Centre being closed to traffic on Sunday July 7 to enjoy a route around the city on their bicycles.
Starting from Leazes Park, the route goes past St James’ Park and towards Blackett Street, up Northumberland Street, around the Civic Centre and back towards the finish at Leazes Park via a similar route.
On the return leg, participants will have the chance to enter St James’ Park on their bikes to do a lap around the pitch before heading to the end of the route.
There will be other attractions around the city for the whole family, including a freestyle stunt show, live music, a display from the Great Britain Cycling Team and a family festival area.
Cllr Joyce McCarty, deputy leader of Newcastle City Council, said: “Let’s Ride is always a fantastic event and provides a wonderful opportunity to see the city in a different way. Last year’s event was a really fun day for the whole family.
“Events like this are fantastic for encouraging people to get into cycling and enjoying all the health benefits it brings, while it is also better for the environment. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the day.”
The first half of the route will take you from Leazes Park to the Civic Centre, before looping back via a lap of St James' Park
