Like many of our residents, we at Newcastle City Council have been shocked and saddened by the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria which has killed tens of thousands of people and affected many millions.
If you would like to donate money, we are backing the Disasters Emergency Committee which has launched an appeal.
Cabinet member for a Vibrant City, Cllr Lesley Storey, said: “On behalf of everyone in the City Council and the people of Newcastle we want to express our shock and sorrow for the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Our thoughts are with the people and all those delivering emergency response.
“Our thoughts are also with the Turkish and Syrian communities here in Newcastle.
"We know that many of you are anxious and worried about your families, friends and compatriots and that some of you may already have received the worst possible news. Our hearts go out to you.”
