Since launching in 2016, Skills Hub partners have supported over 500 people into work.
A celebration afternoon took place in the City Library on 16 December to mark the achievement. The accomplishment demonstrates the dedication of advisors who have supported people to overcome barriers and access opportunity.
The Skills Hub is based in Newcastle City Library and provides a single access point for careers advice and guidance, employment support services and business start-up advice for young people and adults living in Newcastle.
The partnership consists of 12 organisations who deliver from the Skills Hub and who offer residents one-to-one appointments to support them in their career, employment or self-employment journey.
We spoke to Maeve Carton who was helped into work by Generation NE. We also spoke to Cllr Ged Bell on the importance of Skills Hub.
As well as the one-to-one support offered through the partner organisations, the Skills Hub also offers a free programme of events linking in with the wider network of employability support organisations and employers, and includes free workshops, jobs fairs and other events.
Cllr Ged Bell, Cabinet member for Employment and Culture said “Newcastle Skills Hub has been helping as many people as possible get back into work, one of the key priorities for our city.
“There’s different ways that people can get help, all depending on the circumstances that they’re in. So if you need assistance or if you want to chat to someone about future employment pop along to Skills Hub in the City Library.”
