Families with children starting school in September are today finding out which school they have been offered a place at.
In Newcastle, almost 97 per cent of families have been offered a reception class place at one of their preferred schools.
And more than 87 per cent of families have been offered a reception place at their first choice of school.
Just over three per cent of families have been offered a school place at a school that was not on their list of preferences.
Advice for parents regarding primary school places offers 2020
Offer day
Cllr Veronica Dunn, Cabinet member for education and skills at Newcastle City Council said: “Every family who applied on time for a primary school place starting in September in Newcastle has been offered a place today.
“In the vast majority of cases this will be an offer of a place at one of their preferred schools, if not at their first choice of school.
“Unfortunately in a small percentage of cases it has not been possible to offer families a place at one of their preferred schools and we know this can be disappointing and worrying if you find yourself in this situation.
“We would always advise parents in this position to accept the place they have been offered while at the same time, we will put their name down on the waiting list for the school they would prefer.”
Parents can go online to find out which place their child has been offered and emails or letters will also be sent out today.
Further advice on what to do if families are not happy with the place they have been offered can be found at https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/services/schools-learning-and-childcare/apply-school-place/applying-reception-places.
If parents have any questions they are advised to contact the city council by email if possible as there is only a very limited telephone service available at this present time.
The email address to use is admissions.information@newcastle.gov.uk.
In the vast majority of cases this will be an offer of a place at one of their preferred schools, if not at their first choice of school.
