National Carers Survey: 9 October to 30 November 2023

How you can help…

Carers who have been sent a questionnaire may ask for help completing it from staff who provide them, or the person they care for, with social care services. Staff providing social care to a person who has been sent a questionnaire should not help to complete surveys on their behalf. If a carer needs help to complete the survey, staff can:

• Suggest that people ask for help from friends or relatives in the first instance (but not from the person they care for). Please note that any friends or relatives helping to complete the survey should reflect the views of the carer, not their own views.
• If the person has an existing relationship with an advocate, you could help them to contact this person.
• Additional help can be provided by contacting Social Care Direct and asking for support to take part in the survey. Their contact details are as follows: email: scd@newcastle.gov.uk, or phone: 0191 278 8377

The survey is available in alternative formats for people who need this, including: large print, Braille, British Sign Language, other languages, or as a telephone or face-to-face interview.

What is the purpose of the survey?

It asks adults who care for adults about their quality of life, their experience of being a carer, and their views on the social care and supports services they or the person they care for receive. It will be used by Adult Social Care & Integrated Services, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Department of Health to assess the experience and quality of life of people who provide care, and inform future service development.

The survey is confidential. However, any safeguarding issues raised by people’s responses in the questionnaires will be investigated in accordance with Newcastle Adult Social Care & Integrated Services’ duty of care to all people using its services.
