Newcastle will benefit from a share of £300 million investment to support the roll out of new family hubs across the city and help children get the best start in life.
The total investment for Newcastle will be c£3.6m awarded from the Family Hubs and Start for Life programme.
This will enable us to add to the current Children and Families Hubs across the city which offer support from conception through to age 19, or up to 25 for children with special education needs and disabilities.
Children and Families Hubs in Newcastle were launched in 2021 to bring services and organisations together to offer community based, accessible and joined-up support and services for babies, children, young people and their families.
Our family hubs act as a ‘one stop shop’ to offer guidance and advice on a range of circumstances including, infant feeding, mental health support, health visits and parenting classes.
Our hubs also bring together wider wraparound services that can make a huge difference to people who need extra support – such as advice on getting into work, relationship building and stop smoking services.
Strong, supportive families make for more stable communities and happier individuals. This increased investment families will make sure they get the support they need from birth through to adulthood and help with children’s educational attainment, wellbeing and life chances, while also improving wider outcomes such as poor mental health and unemployment.
Cllr Sylvia Copley, Cabinet Member a Growing City, Newcastle City Council said: “The Children and Families Hubs we have in Newcastle have been offering fantastic support to our families and young people for the past 2 years. It’s great that the value of this support has been recognised and this additional investment will help us deliver on our mission of supporting children and young people into a positive future.”
