The Ward committee have funded a Winter bulb planting event at Kilbourn House, home to 38 older North Kenton residents. 1,750 bulbs and flowers were planted this week by Northumberland Wildlife Trust volunteers, including native bluebells, cowslips, wood anemones, wild primroses and wood forget-me-nots.

Cathy Sharp, Communities Officer at Northumberland Wildlife Trust, said:

"Thanks to the Ward committee funding we received, these native flowers will add some lovely colour to the garden in the Spring which we hope the residents will enjoy year after year. They will also provide important benefits to nature, especially for pollinators such as bumblebees, moths and hoverflies". 

Councillor Stephen Lambert, Chair of the Kenton Committee, said: '' We're delighted to fund this bulb planting initiative and work closely with the Wildlife Trust. The planting of over a 1,000 native bulbs will not only boost the wellbeing of local residents, but will help to improve the biodiversity of green spaces in this part of North Kenton.''

Councillor Lambert explained one of our priorities for Kenton is to improve the local environment and green spaces.

Meanwhile Newcastle Council has recently planted over 2,000 bulbs on nearby Kenton Dene and Kenton Lane.
